Two weeks of French racism…

Since the first round here a list of things that happened in France.

- An old guy insulted a hijabi before attacking her and trying to choke her with her own hijab in a park during the day... Her friends helped and filmed everything before he left. The guy is a retired cop and apparently it’s not the first time he attacks Hijabis but usually he insults them he doesn’t physically attack them

- Cops fined a group of hijabi for wearing their masks… basically masks are still mandatory in public transport. They were getting out of the bus so they had their masks on (bus or not wearing a mask is legal anyway) and the cops stopped them to fine them. The women accused them of fining them for wearing a hijab the cops denied it saying it was about hiding their faces which is illegal. Meanwhile they didn’t do anything about the guy wearing a beanie with a mask proving that it was all about the hijab and accused the hijabis of dressing that way to provoke people.

- Two hijabis were crossing the street. They were closer to the other side of the road so when they hear and see the cops with their blue lights on they finish crossing the streets quickly to not be on the way. The cops stop and yell at them for crossing the street, the women explain why they did it. The cops decide to get out of the car and ask for their ids. One of the woman rightfully accuse the cops of doing this only because they are wearing a hijab. One of the cops slaps her and punch her in the face. Her friend tries to help but an other cop pushes her and she falls on the floor and lose consciousness a couple minutes. Bystanders had to come and stop the cops to help the women. An other Muslim woman filmed everything while telling them to stop from her car (she was with her kid who was crying most likely traumatized by what was happening). The cop who slapped and punched the first girl clearly says “Yes I punched her and I have the right to do it”. The cops tried to arrest the girls but were forced to let them go because of the situation… that being said they have the fucking audacity to sue the girls. Lastly given how they stopped to insult and scare the girls as well as other informations they might have used the blue lights only to get out of traffic and not for an actual emergency.

- French Muslims are being accused of “communitarianism” of following “islamists vote orders” and of “entryism fundamentalist” because 70% of us who voted, voted for the same candidate. Not only making stats based on religion or race is illegal in France so the fact they did those stats is fucking illegal but also maybe just maybe the fucking reason why 70% of us voted for Melenchon was because it was a fucking survival vote. The only candidate who had a chance to win and didn’t insult us and didn’t want us to have less right than white people was Melenchon of fucking course we voted for him?! I will also point out that the same stats say that Catholics voted for Le Pen and Zemmour and that French Israeli voted for Zemmour (friendly reminder that Zemmour is a Holocaust denier… he denies the huge France played in the holocaust and praised Bugeaud killing “Algerian Muslims and even so Jews” so I guess Israeli only cared about his huge islamophobia and his affection for colonialism.) yet nobody blamed them or talked about their vote. Catholics and French Israelis are allowed to vote the same way apparently only Muslims votes are questioned.

- French medias accused French Muslims of being responsible for the oil shortage in some stores? Because according to them we break fast with “special beignets”? You know apparently the oil shortage in some stores have nothing to do with Ukraine and Russia exporting 50% and 25% of sunflower oil and not being able to do it like they used to because of the war… it’s because of us French Muslims. And Ramdhan was invented in 2022 that’s why they was no oil shortage last year during Ramdhan. Also who is the savage who break their fast with a freaking beignet? Eat a fucking date.

- A so called journalist was talking about farmers being abandoned. Nobody caring about them. How it was a hard job… and then he casually accused French Muslims of making it harder for them by stealing sheep for Ramdhan. Nobody fucking do that… we don’t fucking steal sheep?! Dude casually lied on live TV just because he wanted to hate on us and some people will believe him.

France is racist as fuck and it not getting better.

And if Lepen is elected it's gonna be worse. Laws against racism will be supressed, refugees are gonna be in huge danger and the police will have all the rights and never be punished. Please. Go vote.

Totally agree but please let’s not pretend like Macron is not an islamophobic piece of shit. When he says that Muslim women who chose to wear the hijab just needs to be educated and learn « French civility ». When his government voted the « loi séparatiste » when his government wants hijabi to be banned from sport. When his Home Secretary accuses Le Pen of being too soft against Muslims. When he government teach how to « recognize signs of radicalization » and say that praying, fasting, having a beard… are sign of radicalization. When his cops keep the Algerian families of the victims of October 17th 1961 from honoring their lost ones on the 60th anniversary of this tragedy (cops and officials were allowed to put flowers there for the cameras but not the families of the victims). When he says that France created Algeria. When his Home Secretary uses his Harki Grandpa as an exemple of how French Muslims should be.

Let’s not pretend Macron didn’t do everything to face Marine Le Pen on the second round because he knew that it was the only way he would get reelected. Because hey 70% of French voters hate us so they chose to vote for a racist piece of shit so now our choice is between a racist and an other racist. We just have to pick the one who’s a tiny bit less racist to avoid Le Pen who’s worst.

Yes. There's no doubt that Macron is a total racist and islamophobic piece of shit. His first mandat was terrible and it's so raging to vote for him. But we can't let Lepen win.

But there's still the legislative! That will be the last chance to avoid 5 shitty years!

This is breaking news, 30th January 2019. A newly found medieval source on Arthurian legend…!

The 7 page manuscript depicts a battle scene written in old french and it could have been part of the text that Thomas Malory based his writings on as it predates his book (and predates every other english language source). In the battle, Merlin leads soldiers and commands a fire-breathing dragon. The manuscripts are damaged so we have to wait to know the full story but there are a few more details in the articles. The 7 fragments would equal 20 printed pages by today’s standards. What a time to be in this fandom!

Narrator: Occasionally, rough previs might be underway even before the cinematographer or director has signed on to the project, a practice that can be controversial in Hollywood. Director Lucrecia Martel said she turned down the offer to direct the upcoming “Black Widow” movie after Marvel told her not to worry about the action sequences.

Imagine telling the director not to worry about the action scenes of the film because you already did them

While previs used to be used for just one or two tricky action scenes, Marvel has embraced the approach of visualizing entire movies, including quieter beats and dialogue scenes.

Am I understanding correctly that essentially the previs team has animated the whole movie, then the directors come in and just…reproduce it shot for shot? 🤦‍♀️ When you account for what we’ve learned about how much CGI goes into these movies, there’s very little filmmaking that’s going on. You’re taking a pre-made mould and just putting live people in it, then have the CGI department finish it off.

Why tf are they not giving their actors scripts then? The directors are not directing, there is very limited organic set or costumes, and even the actors have no idea what they’re supposed to be doing. The whole thing is a sham.

I read the article to see if there was some sort of missed phrase or something that would make this in ANY way better. There isn’t, go figure.

For those who don’t know, previs (pre-visualization) is a tool used by filmmakers to get a rough idea of what a scene will look like. It’s usually storyboards (a series of sketches showing the scene) for less intense scenes, and stuntmen will create what is basically a low-budget YouTube skit for the fight scenes. The only time I’ve seen a stunt previs released with the movie itself is on the No Way Home disc, but you can look them up on YouTube sometimes.

For effects-heavy movies, the effects company will often frame up the scene with primitive assets and animations that will slowly get better and better as the details are sorted out. You’ll see these in bloopers and deleted scenes quite often.

HOWEVER Marvel is taking these techniques too far. They previs most, if not all, of the movies before production even BEGINS. They had started the final battle in Endgame in 2016, and it didn’t change much over the next 3 years, which means that they probably started SOONER.

Basically, the directors and actors are there only for the smaller character moments. Marvel has already locked in exactly what they want to have happen, which inhibits improv quite a lot, and removes the directors ability to change ANYTHING of note.

Basically, Martin Scorsese was right. The MCU is the antithesis of cinema. They inhibit actual filmmaking to such a degree that all Marvel movies should probably just have “created by Kevin Feige” as the only credit.

Thank you for this addition, I was getting too tired of all the replies along the lines of “ommggggg movies have always done previssss are you dummmmmb” to make an effort to reply cos clearly most of these people didn’t even read what I wrote, let alone the article.

Exactly as the original quote I copied said, Marvel has embraced the approach of visualising entire movies. This isn’t your usual action movie previs to help directors plan out a scene and hence their shooting schedule. This is next level storyboarding before a director has even signed on. Every shot, including the dialogue and quieter beats, is already previs-ed, which means there is very little creative input required (or allowed?) from the director because the entire scene and camera angle and rhythm is already constructed for you.

The question then comes, again addressed in my original post, why the fuck do they not give actors full scripts? The whole movie is already previs’ed, why are they scared of leaks? The justification in this article for the previs is that this allows directors to focus on getting their actors to portray the scene. But the actors don’t even get the full story of the character? So you get directors who aren’t really directing, (good) actors who don’t know what they’re acting, sets that are not real sets, costumes that are not real costumes…what exactly is still left there in the MCU movie making process that is still organic?
